Julian Alvarez’s agent makes shock admission about Barcelona transfer
Julian Alvarez’s agent has admitted his client remains open to a potential Barcelona transfer despite a brilliant first season with Atletico Madrid.
Alvarez joined Atletico last season and is now being seriously considered by the Catalan giants as they lay out a long-term succession plan for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski. The Polish forward’s contract is due to expire in 2026 and Barcelona’s recruitment team is already looking ahead.

Speaking on Spanish TV program El Chiringuito, Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, addressed growing speculation linking the 24-year-old with a move to Camp Nou. While Alvarez remains fully committed to his current club, Hidalgo made it clear that the future is open.
“The day-to-day is at Atletico,” he said. “We will see how the negotiation goes. Football changes quickly. There will need to be talks between the clubs, and a deal will have to be made.”
Barcelona also have an edge in the race to sign Alvarez as Hidalgo reveals his emotional connection to the club. According to Hidalgo, the forward has long admired Barcelona, partly due to his deep respect for Lionel Messi.
“He received many calls, but Atletico want him to stay for now,” he added. “He has always followed Leo Messi’s career, and I don’t think many Argentines grow up without a strong feeling for Barça. Julian is very grateful to many Barça players who have spoken highly of him. That motivates him a lot.”
Club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have reportedly followed his progress closely, viewing him as a modern forward who could thrive at Camp Nou.
Though Barcelona are not expected to make an immediate move during this summer transfer window, they are working behind the scenes to line up a long-term replacement for Lewandowski.
Atletico remain determined to hold on to their prized forward. He has a contract until the summer of 2030 with the Rojiblancos, and barring an irresistible bid, the La Liga outfit hope to retain his services for the foreseeable future.
