Chelsea to investigate ugly incident that occurred during Aston Villa match

Published on

Aston Villa continued their good form in Premier League on Saturday as they came from behind to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Two goals from Ollie Watkins gave Unai Emery’s team the bragging right with the result keeping them three points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal and only one behind second-place Manchester City.

However, an ugly incident happened after the match. As reported by The Telegraph, a plastic bottle was chucked towards the away team’s bench once the full-time whistle was blown.

Villa staff and substitutes were covered in water as a result, with one of the former signalling the direction the bottle came from.

The report claims the bottle was seemingly tossed from the Chelsea side of the dug-out, although no official confirmation on the bottle’s origin has been provided.

Chelsea are set to cooperate with Villa, with authorities also ready to help find out who threw the bottle and where from.

CCTV footage is likely to be reviewed to help the investigation.

Villa have won 11 consecutive matches in all competitions, equalling their record that was set in September 1897 and March 1914.

Eight of those victories have come in the Premier League, with Unai Emery’s side maintaining their status as title challengers.
