‎JJ Gabriel: Meet Manchester United sensation who wants out

Published on

JJ Gabriel has become the trending name in the world of football despite the ongoing debates on who should win the Ballon d’Or award.

‎While Manchester United have continued to spend big in the transfer market by bringing in experienced player, the club have also been investing in its youth team.

‎The Red Devils in the past few years have seen the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo come up the youth rank and make a name for themselves in the first team.

‎However, much can not be said of some players who made their debut but had to be shipped out.

‎JJ Gabriel is yet to fall in any of that category. Despite this, his decision to leave United has attracted the attention of top clubs across Europe.

‎So, Who is JJ Gabriel?

‎Still 15 years old, Gabriel gave United a glimpse of his talent during the Red Devils preseason tour as he played against Atletico Madrid.

‎Born 6 October 2010, Gabriel goes by the full name: Joseph Junior Andreou O’Cearuill.

‎A left winger, Gabriel has played for some of the biggest football academies in the Premier League. He has played for QPR, Chelsea, Arsenal, and West Ham United before joining Manchester United in 2022.

‎Known for his skills and goalscoring ability, 14-year-old Gabriel became youngest-ever player to play for Manchester United’s U18 team, scoring twice on his debut in the U18 Premier League against Leeds United.

‎Prior to the 2025–26 season, he was allowed to train with United’s first team players. When he turned 15, he was given similar opportunity.

‎Ahead of the 2026/27 football season, he was part of United’s preseason squad.

‎JJ Gabriel Achievement at Manchester United

‎The striker won the Premier League’s U18 player of the season award last season, despite only being 14 when the season began, and scored a hat trick in his UEFA Youth League debut last week.

‎He is expected to make his competitive bow in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup tie with Brighton. However, the recent transfer saga could put a stop to that.

‎Clubs interested in signing JJ Gabriel

‎Spanish giant Real Madrid are reportedly leading the race to sign Gabriel from Manchester United.

‎Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are among the other names in the fray, alongside a whole host of English clubs.

‎Though United have not given up yet, but various reports claim the player views Spain as his dream destination.

Gabriels’ father is seen as the one pushing the buttons, and as things stand, United are set to lose their academy’s crown jewel.
