Amorim saves Man Utd over £8m after joining AC Milan

Manchester United have been spared an even heavier financial blow following the departure of former manager Rúben Amorim, thanks to Serie A powerhouse AC Milan.

Newly released financial statements for the 2025/26 campaign have confirmed the true cost of Amorim’s turbulent 14-month spell at Old Trafford, alongside the substantial relief provided by his quick return to management in Italy.

The Cost of the Old Trafford Sacking

Amorim was relieved of his duties in January 2026 following a difficult run of results that followed his arrival in November 2024. With 18 months remaining on his contract at the time of his dismissal, the Red Devils faced a massive potential payout to cover the remainder of his deal.

According to United’s official financial disclosures, the club’s exceptional items for the year included an £8.2 million severance package. This figure covered compensation not only for Amorim himself but also for his backroom coaching staff: Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro  and Jorge Vital.
