Arne Slot to deal with new injury as two senior players miss training

Liverpool are likely to be without two forwards for their Premier League showdown against Brentford as Arne Slot faces a huge task.

Still on top of the Premier League table, Liverpool travel to Brentford on Saturday afternoon aiming to extend their lead at the top of the table to seven points. Having drawn their last match against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool will be eager to get all three points.

However, Diego Jota who scored the only and equalizing goal against Forest may not be available after Liverpool boss Arne Slot confirmed that he has missed training and could be ruled out.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Dutchman said: “No doubt about his importance for us but he wasn’t training, so we have to see today where he is. It’s not sure he is available tomorrow, we’ll see today.

“He felt a little bit when he came in, a niggle during the half-hour he came in. He finished the game but complained a bit about it. We’ll see for tomorrow.”

Asked if the Portuguese forward was on an individual training programme, Slot replied: “Not because it’s Jota but every player has their own programme, 80 or 90 is the same but every player has stuff they want to improve or to prevent a certain injury. So that is the same for all players, so there is a special programme for every single player.”

Jota is not the only concern that Liverpool have in attacking areas ahead of this weekend’s game. Slot has revealed that Luis Diaz is also a slight doubt but is more optimistic of his chances of playing against Brentford.

He added: “I assume he [Diaz] is OK, a sore throat but I assume he will train today. We’re expecting him to train.”
