Andre Onana’s Man Utd future in doubt as club icon makes new verdict

As Manchester United prepare to continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League, Andre Onana’s hope of rejoining the club have suffered a huge blow.

Onana has played just one game for United this season – their shock loss to Grimsby Town – before he was allowed to join Trabzonspor on loan in September.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper was often criticized for his below-par performance at Old Trafford and the move to Turkey seems to have benefitted all parties.

With Senne Lammens impressing between the sticks, former United favourite Gordon Strachan believes the Onana’s Old Trafford career is all but over.

The Scotsman told Esports News: “I think Andre Onana has played his last game for Manchester United. At United you must have a presence in goal – whether it’s physical, attitude, or character, you have to be a presence. I don’t think he had that when he played for the club.

“A big problem for me is that I’m not sure Onana really wanted to be at Old Trafford. He looked like he’d rather be somewhere else and that might be what he needs to start enjoying his football again.

“At no point did I think he was enjoying playing football for United. I’d be shocked if I saw him play again for the club. I think his United career is over in that respect.”

While Onana will be eager to convince Ruben Amorim he still has a future at Old Trafford, it’s unlikely the Cameroon international will be given another chance.

United in the past few weeks have gained their confidence and this can be traced to their new number one, Lammens, who only arrived in the summer.

Onana signed a season-long loan deal at Trabzonspor and it’s left to be seen if he’ll be allowed to make a return to Old Trafford or shipped out permanently.
