Alexis Mac Allister could be heading for the exit door at Liverpool as the Argentina international breaks silence on his future.
The Liverpool midfielder during an interview with ESPN opened up about his future and also heaped praise on Argentina icon Lionel Messi.
Mac Allister said earlier this month that he felt “very sad” that he has not been offered a new contract by the club — but opted to stay at Anfield in the summer despite having opportunities to leave.
”There’s no firm decision yet. I still have two years left on my contract. As I said, I’m going to give it my all. A lot can happen in that time; there are plenty of options,” Mac Allister said.

”Hopefully it’ll be for more years, but if it’s just two, I’ll have to enjoy them with my family, because I have no doubt that I’m at one of the best clubs in the world.”
The former Brighton man also told ESPN that Argentina will have to “grow stronger as a team” as they prepare for a future without Messi.
”The words for Messi are always the same: gratitude, and the realisation that there will never be another like him. We’ve enjoyed our time with him immensely,” he said.
”We’re also grateful to him for everything he’s helped us win. It’s sure to be a very emotional occasion [his farewell].”
”It will be a different process with new players coming in. We need to start realising that the best player in the world, the one who made all the difference, won’t be there anymore, and that we’ll have to grow stronger as a team. That will be the most important thing.”
Asked about Messi’s chances of winning this year’s Ballon d’Or, at the age of 39, Mac Allister said: “Yes, obviously. as Argentines we’d love for Messi to win it. He had an incredible World Cup and I don’t see why he shouldn’t be awarded it.”
”Also, it’s understood that these days the numbers play a big part — something that didn’t carry as much weight in the past — and you don’t know exactly what people are voting for either.
”But everyone in the running is a great player; anyone who comes close will deserve it. We all know that Leo has always prioritised the team over individual achievements, so it wouldn’t be a big deal for him.”
Mac Allister will return to Liverpool after the conclusion of the international break, on Oct. 11. The Reds face Manchester City at Anfield in what would be an epic game.
