Latest FIFA world ranking revealed as England, Spain secure new spot

England and Spain have been handed a new spot in the latest FIFA world ranking after EURO 2024 final.
Spain defeated England 2-1 to clinch their fourth European Championship as Gareth Southgate’s team lost their second consecutive European final.
Argentina also retained their title as kings of South America after an extra time win over Colombia in the final at the Hard Rock Stadium.
The conclusion of both the Euros and Copa America tournaments have now seen FIFA release the latest batch of rankings.
Lionel Messi’s led Argentina retained their place at the summit while France stay put in second. However, Spain who defeated France in the semifinals before seeing off England in Berlin, climb five places up to third after a fourth Euros triumph.
A second Euros final on the trot for England, albeit with the same disappointing result, sees them move one place up to fourth – swapping places with Brazil after they were eliminated from the Copa America at the quarter final stage.
The biggest winners from the new rankings are Venezuela, who have gone up a whopping 17 places from 37th after an impressive Copa America campaign.
Belgium and Croatia both each dropped three places, with Portugal down two and the United States national team falling down five positions after an underwhelming Copa America host tournament which led to Gregg Berhalter’s dismissal.
Turkey have also received recognition for their excellent showing at Euro 2024, climbing 16 places to 26th.
Switzerland’s impressive tournament has resulted in an increase of four, but it is Czech Republic who have experienced the biggest drop, sinking 13 places to 47th.
