We helped Nottingham: Ruben Amorim fires shot at Man Utd flops

Manchester United continue their bad form under Ruben Amorim as the Red Devils suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

Former Manchester United player Anthony Elanga scored the decisive goal and Amorim didn’t hold back in his assessment at the City Ground. The Portuguese bemoaned his players’ performances after the loss, claiming that they ‘helped Forest win three points’.

“We controlled the game, but we already knew this team (Forest) can score goals out of nothing,” Amorim told TNT Sports post-match. “When they scored we changed the game a little bit from what they want. We need to win games and we deserved more in this game, that is clear, but it is our fault and we need to be better in the last third. We should have won this game, not even drawn, but in the end we have lost three points.

“We know the characters of the team and one goal can put them in one situation they love. We have to score two goals to win a match and that is frustrating as it was the beginning of the game. We helped them to win three points.”

While Nottingham Forest’s victory give them hope of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season, the prospect of playing in Europe next season is fading off for United.

The loss kept Manchester United in the bottom half with the extended break ultimately doing them no favours and their hopes now rest solely on the Europa League.
