Antonio Rudiger undergoes surgery, to be sidelined for almost two months

Real Madrid are likely to be without Antonio Rudiger for the next two months as the German defender undergoes surgery to address a knee injury.

Rudiger has become an important figure at Real Madrid since he joined the Spanish giant from Chelsea. However, he will play no part in Madrid’s remaining match this season after a successful surgery.

The 32-year-old German international was staring at a lengthy 4-12 game ban after his red card vs Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, meaning he would have likely ended up missing the remaining La Liga games.

With this in mind, Madrid and Rudiger decided to address the knee problem that has been holding him back for much of the season.

“Our player Antonio Rudiger underwent successful surgery today for a partial tear of the external meniscus in his left leg,” the statement from the club read.

“The operation was performed by Dr. Manuel Leyes under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Rudiger’s will begin recovery soon.”

While the club statement does not provide a recovery period, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Rudiger will be out for a period of almost two months.

Rudiger is officially out of the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer and will only make it back towards the start of the 2025/26 season.
