Huge Blow! Arne Slot confirms Florian Wirtz’s injury

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that the Reds have suffered two new injury blows with Conor Bradley and Florian Wirtz the latest to suffer setbacks.

The Reds are looking to turn their season around having been inconsistent in the past few matches. However, Germany international Wirtz will not be fit enough to play against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this weekend.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alisson Becker is in contention to return this weekend. Alisson has not featured since being forced off the field against Galatasaray in September.

Speaking on Friday, Slot voiced out his frustration that Bradley and Wirtz are unavailable for selection.

Slot said in his press conference: ” [Andy] Robertson will be with us today. Alisson trained last week and this week so he will be able to play if things work out today.

“We do have some issues after the international break. Conor Bradley is unable to play, Florian Wirtz unable to play. That is far from ideal.”

“Both muscle issues,” Slot continued. “I don’t expect Conor to be part of the upcoming 22 days, maybe the end unless a miracle happens.

“Florian maybe should not be that long. Jeremie is out just as long, won’t be available in the next few weeks.”

Slot has acknowledged that he will have to lean on his squad and rely on them to be versatile. Dominik Szoboszlai has filled in a right back this season for the Reds and may have to do so again amidst a busy run of fixtures.

“Dominik is playing very well in all positions,” the Liverpool boss explained. “Joe Gomez has played two times 90 minutes in 2025 so if we want to keep him available longer it’s maybe a risk to play him seven times in 22 days. He missed training yesterday but we are expecting him to train today.

“Maybe one or two players have to play in positions they normally won’t do.”

Arne Slot tasted defeat for the first time when Liverpool were beaten by Nottingham Forest at Anfield early in his tenure – and will be eager to get a positive result this weekend.
