Arne Slot sums up Mohamed Salah importance after Southampton win

Liverpool continued their dominance in the Premier League under Arne Slot by beating relegation threatened Southampton 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The victory over Southampton saw Liverpool go eight points clear of second place and Slot has nothing but words of praise for Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah.

Salah scored two goals while Dominik Szoboszlai bagged the opener.

“We always know we can trust Mo when things are difficult for us because after we went 2-1 down,” Arne Slot said. “I didn’t feel we looked like we were in a moment to score.

“It was a fantastic pass from Ryan Gravenberch but the timing of the run and the way Mo finished it was special. That helped us really back into the game. Of course, it helps to get back to 2-2 but we needed that goal to play the last 25 minutes that we played.

“For me it was then a matter of time before we scored a goal. In the first hour we dominated possession without really creating that much, the last 25 minutes we dominated with creating some chances.”

The Liverpool head coach added: “This league asks a lot from every player in every weekend. And if you then play in Europe that’s not always easy. Only a few teams in England have shown they can do this, Liverpool have shown it in the past for many seasons, the last two seasons it has been more difficult.

“But that’s also why teams in England have such a big squad, because top clubs have quite a lot of money we can also make a bigger squad than some teams in other countries.

“That’s also what we need. You saw it again today, the three players who came on really had an impact on the game, that is always what we need in this league.”

Liverpool will be hoping to continue their good run of form as they host a strong side in Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday before the opportunity to go 11 clear of Manchester City next Sunday at Anfield.
