Arsenal in ‘advanced talks’ to appoint new sporting director
Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of appointing a new sporting director with Roberto Olabe to secure the job.
The Premier League giant have been on the look out for a new sporting director following the surprise departure of Edu Gaspar last month.
Edu who played a pivotal role in reshaping Arsenal’s football operations, left the club to join Nottingham Forest, despite being offered a significant pay increase at the Emirates.
Arsenal have since shift their attention towards finding a replacement and recent developments suggest that Arsenal may have found their man.
Reports from Foot Mercato indicate that Arsenal are in advanced negotiations with Roberto Olabe, the highly regarded sporting director of Real Sociedad.
Known for his strategic vision and knack for identifying talent, the 57-year-old has been a key figure in Sociedad’s recent success. Under his leadership, the La Liga side won their first major trophy in over 30 years by claiming the Copa del Rey in 2021.
Moreover, they returned to the Champions League in the 2023-2024 season, marking their first appearance in the competition in a decade.
If employed, Arsenal are looking at using his influence to bring in Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
25-year-old Isak has become a top target for Arsenal and its believed Olabe has a great relationship with the star forward. it is believed that Olabe’s arrival at the Emirates could provide Arsenal with an advantage, thanks to their longstanding rapport.
Arsenal will also be looking at building a strong team worthy of competing with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
