Arsenal Enter Race for Marc Guehi as Antoine Semenyo Completes Manchester City Switch

The January transfer window has burst into life with Arsenal emerging as serious contenders for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, even as they look set to miss out on long-term target Antoine Semenyo.

The Battle for Marc Guehi

In a dramatic twist to the winter window, Mikel Arteta has reportedly green-lit a pursuit of England international Marc Guehi. The 25-year-old center-back is currently in the final months of his contract at Selhurst Park, making him one of the most coveted assets in the Premier League.

While Arsenal strengthened their defense in the summer with the arrivals of Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie, injuries to Riccardo Calafiori and Mosquera have forced the Gunners to reconsider their depth. Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner recently admitted that while the club wants to keep their captain, a “massive offer” could tempt them to sell now rather than risk losing him for free in the summer.

Arsenal face stiff competition, however, as Manchester City are also desperate for defensive reinforcements following injuries to Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol.

Semenyo Heads to the Etihad

While the Gunners look to bolster their backline, they have missed out on Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo. Despite being a lifelong Arsenal fan, the Ghanaian forward has officially completed a blockbuster move to Manchester City for a reported fee of £65 million.

Semenyo has been in sensational form this season, netting 10 goals for the Cherries. His move to the Etihad Stadium serves as a major statement of intent from Pep Guardiola, as City look to hunt down Arsenal at the top of the table.

“I have watched City over the last decade… they have set the highest of standards,” Semenyo stated upon his arrival in Manchester.

Arsenal’s January Strategy

Under the guidance of sporting director Andrea Berta, Arsenal appear to be focusing on “unique market opportunities.” The pursuit of Guehi fits this profile perfectly—a high-quality, homegrown leader who could be available at a discounted rate.

As the deadline approaches, all eyes will be on North London to see if Arsenal can beat their rivals to Guehi’s signature and maintain their momentum in the title race.
