Arsenal’s four potential Champions League last-16 opponents
Arsenal recorded an outstanding 2-1 win over Sporting Girona to secure a place in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League round of 16.
Youngster Ethan Nwaneri produced a moment of brilliance to secure Arsenal’s place in the top eight and ensure Mikel Arteta can take his team on a warm-weather camp next month.
Former Bournemouth player Arnaut Danjuma put Girona ahead before Jorginho levelled from the spot. However, Nwaneri, 17, became the second youngest Englishman to score in the Champions League – bettered only by Jude Bellingham – by dispatching a ferocious attempt from the edge of the box.
The win ensured Arsenal secure their place in the round of 16 where they will be expecting a tough opponent.
Mikel Arteta’s team will face one of Milan, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord or Juventus in the Champions League round of 16 matches. The match up will determine Arsenal’s title credentials both in Europe and domestically.
Arsenal ended the group stage phase third on the spot and it’s only a time before Mikel Arteta’s team have what it takes to win.
