Arteta reveals referee verdict on Arsenal’s late penalty appeal against Bayern

Arsenal’s late penalty appeal against Bayern Munich has become the talking point following the 2-2 draw between both teams at Emirate Stadium.

The Gunners believe they should have been given a penalty when Manuel Neuer caught Bukayo Saka inside the box in the closing stages of the match.

Saka was furious after the match and had to be stopped by some Arsenal official as he vent his anger towards the officiating referee.

Speaking after the match, Arteta explained what the referee told him about his team late penalty appeal.

According to Arteta, referee Glenn Nyberg stated that the penalty call was checked by the VAR and it was deemed not to be a penalty.

Arteta told TNT Sports: “Nothing, I didn’t say anything, they said that they checked it and they decided it wasn’t a penalty.”

Arsenal went into the game full of confidence and it wasn’t surprising when Saka put the Gunners 1-0 up with a brilliant curling finish into the bottom corner.

However, Bayern roared back to lead at the break. Serge Gnabry fired past David Raya before halftime to level things up before William Saliba’s foul on Leroy Sane gave Harry Kane a penalty, which he converted.

Substitute, Leandro Trossard stroke home for 2-2 after being set up by fellow substitute, Gabriel Jesus. It’s all to play for in the second leg when Arsenal travel to Germany.
