‎Barcelona deny interest in want-away Man United’s JJ Gabriel

Barcelona sporting director Deco has confirmed the Spanish champions have no interest in making a move for want-away Manchester United teenager JJ Gabriel.

‎JJ Gabriel made headlines earlier this month when he requested to leave Old Trafford after four years with the English club.

‎The 15-year-old winger has since been linked with top clubs across Europe. Barcelona are reportedly among the clubs interested in the youngster but Deco denies the Catalan side are monitoring the situation.

‎”There’s nothing to say about this boy,” Deco said at the Portugal Football Summit this week.

‎”It’s normal that players are linked with us. It always happens. There’s a huge market for that with a lot of interests involved, even when [players] are young.

‎”But we are not interested in any player in his situation. I’m not sure what’s happening, and if he’s still a Manchester United player. We are not involved in that.

‎”First of all, we need to understand how the situation is before we try to do something. To speak about young, teenage players, it is not our business.”

‎Gabriel formally stated his intention to leave Old Trafford with immediate effect, a move that met United off guard.

‎He requested his registration be cancelled before he becomes eligible for a scholarship contract when he turns 16 on Oct. 6, allowing him to sign elsewhere.

‎His decision came ahead of United’s Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton, when he was due to be included in the first team squad.
