Barcelona issue crucial update on Gavi’s injury against Alaves
Barcelona, on Sunday continued their push for the La Liga title with an hard-fought 1-0 victory over Alaves but the victory was marred with an injury to Gavi.
Spanish midfielder Gavi was involved in a frightening clash of heads with Tomas Conechny. The impact left both players sprawled on the pitch, prompting immediate concern from their teammates and the benches.
Medical staff swiftly rushed onto the field to attend to the injured duo. With the match halted for over five minutes, both players had to be substituted despite Gavi wanting to continue.
Gavi protested his fitness but the club doctor was not convinced, expressing concerns about his safety. Ronald Araujo and Raphinha also approached their teammate, urging him to prioritise his well-being and accept the substitution.

Fortunately, the club later released a reassuring update on Gavi’s condition. Despite the head injury, there was no loss of consciousness, and medical tests returned normal results. He was subsequently discharged to recover at home.
“During this afternoon’s match against Alavés, Gavi suffered a head injury without loss of consciousness. The tests have been normal and he has been discharged from home,” read the statement.
As things stand, there are no indications that Gavi will miss any upcoming matches.
Gavi has become an important player in Hansi Flicks’ team and he’ll be eager to help when Barcelona face a crucial quarter-final tie in the Copa del Rey against Valencia on Thursday.
