Huge Blow!! Bukayo Saka to miss Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool

Published on

Arsenal will be without Bukayo Saka for their upcoming Premier League meeting with Liverpool as he’s set to be out for up to four weeks on the sidelines.

The England international scored in first-half stoppage time as Mikel Arteta’s side ran out 5-0 winners on Saturday. He was forced off early in the second half, though, after picking up a hamstring issue.

Saka wasn’t the only player to pick up an injury for last season’s Premier League runners-up. Martin Odegaard suffered a shoulder injury in the first half, and he now faces a race against time to feature against Liverpool on August 31.

Though Mikel Arteta can rely on his latest signing from Crystal Palace, Eberechi Eze, Saka will be missed as he’s grown to become an important player in the squad.

Saka’s absence also come at a frustrating time for England boss Thomas Tuchel, who is looking to preserve a 100 percent start in World Cup qualifying. Andorra come to Wembley on September 6, with the Three Lions facing a tricky away trip to Serbia three days later.

After a pair of home wins in Tuchel’s first two games in charge, England were less convincing when they beat Andorra 1-0 in Barcelona. They lost for the first time under Tuchel in June, with Senegal coming from behind to win 3-1 at the City Ground.

Arsenal’s latest injury setbacks come after Kai Havertz picked up a knee problem. Speaking after the win over Leeds, manager Arteta recognised the frustrating elements of the start to the season.

“That’s the negatives of the day,” Arteta said on Saturday. “Martin felt something in his shoulder when he landed. We don’t know, we’ll have to scan him tomorrow and understand a bit better.

“And Bukayo, while he was carrying the ball, wrestling with the defender, he felt something in his hamstring. Let’s see, I think it’s the other one, it’s not the same one as the previous injury. We’ve been two weeks and we’ve already lost Kai, Martin and Bukayo, so it tells you how well-equipped you have to be in this league to manage and to maintain the level that we want.”
