Gianluca Scamacca broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a first-time finish following Davide Zappacosta’s cross.

The Italy international striker then made it 2-0 on the hour mark with another first-time finish from a cross.

Though Liverpool tried to fight back, Mario Pasalic grabbed a third with just six minutes left to play.

Jamie Carragher who was not pleased with the performances took to X after the game and admitted it was an “awful” result and performance from his former side.

He urged Jurgen Klopp to write off the second leg and the Europa League and just concentrate on the Premier League.

“Awful result & performance from Liverpool, the only consolation about getting beat so heavily is Jurgen should play a full second string in the second leg & go all in for the league!” Carragher wrote.

Liverpool will be eager to stage an epic comeback when they travel to Italy to face Atlanta for the second leg tie.
