Chelsea Make New Decision on Mamadou Sarr, Aaron Anselmino’s Future

Published on

Chelsea have decided to make a bold move in their defensive line this January, with defender Mamadou Sarr set to be recalled from his loan spell at Strasbourg.

The Blues have been relatively quiet this transfer window, with their biggest move being the termination of Raheem Sterling’s contract. However, they have now decided to switch things up by cutting short Sarr’s loan spell in Alsace.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the decision was made by the Chelsea hierarchy, who now view Sarr as a “top talent” ready to be integrated more closely into the club’s long-term vision.

Sarr had been developing his game in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg, a club owned by the same BlueCo consortium that controls Chelsea. He has now proven to the Chelsea hierarchy that he has what it takes to represent the club.

Romano reports that Sarr is considered a “key part of the Blues’ project,” suggesting that his recall is not merely for squad depth, but potentially to begin his assimilation into the first-team picture or to safeguard his development under the direct supervision of the Chelsea coaching staff.

Meanwhile, Argentine prospect Aaron Anselmino and striker David Datro Fofana will head to France on loan for the remainder of the campaign to aid the Ligue 1 side.

Anselmino was recently brought back to Chelsea after an underwhelming loan spell at Borussia Dortmund. Although it was reported that he could be sent back to the German club for the rest of the season, Chelsea decided to block that option due to comments made by the Bundesliga side.

Romano confirms that a deal is now in place for a straight loan until the end of the season.

Anselmino is set to fill the void left by Sarr’s departure, ensuring that Strasbourg’s defensive options remain well-stocked for the remainder of the campaign.

Strasbourg are currently seventh in the Ligue 1 table and are eager to push for a top-four finish to secure European football.
