David de Gea shocked by Antony goal, opens up on former Man Utd team-mate
David de Gea has made a bold statement about former Manchester United team-mate Antony after being beaten by a stunning strike from the Brazilian forward.
Undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in football history, De Gea once played alongside Antony at Old Trafford. They spent a season together in England during the 2022-23 campaign – meaning that they lined up against one another on a regular basis in training.
Both players came face to face on Thursday night when Florentina played Real Betis in the first leg of their Conference League semi-final clash.
Currently on loan at Real Betis, Antony scored a stunner against De Gea. Struck with his right foot, the Brazilian winger saw his effort crashed into the top corner.
De Gea was left flapping at fresh air as the ball fizzed past him, with the Spaniard shocked to see a man he knows well make such good contact with a boot that is usually reserved for standing on. De Gea told Movistar Plus: “I have trained 1000 times with Antony and he has never scored a goal with his right foot.”
Antony’s spectacular strike helped Betis to a 2-1 victory on home soil. They will now head to Italy for the return leg of a heavyweight last-four showdown next Thursday final.
