Enzo Fernandez open to Chelsea summer exit after PSG embarrassment

Published on

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has cast doubts over his future at Stamford Bridge following the Blues embarrassment defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

The west London club were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night after slumping to a 3-0 home defeat. Chelsea lost the first leg 5-2 and eventually dropped out of the competition with a stunning 8-2 aggregate scoreline.

As Chelsea will now shift their focus on securing Champions League qualification next season, Fernandez has hinted he might not be a part of the team next season.

Fernandez, who arrived at the club for £106.8million as one of BlueCo’s early acquisitions, finds himself at the centre of growing uncertainty surrounding the club’s direction.

“I don’t know, there are eight games left and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see,” Fernandez is reported to have said on ESPN Argentina.

Fernandez has previously been linked with PSG and Real Madrid. Those rumours are now likely to ramp up following his comments.

The Argentina international captained Chelsea against PSG and has been an important player to the squad all through the season. Fernandez has contributed an impressive 12 goals and six assists in 45 appearances this term.

When questioned about the remarks following the defeat to PSG, Rosenior said: “Firstly, I haven’t seen that.

“It’s hard for me to speak on speculation after a game and I need to focus right now on the most important things, which is making sure we get a result against Everton on Saturday.”
