Enzo Maresca eyes reunion with £40million Chelsea star at Man City

Manchester City are set to announce Enzo Maresca as their new manager after agreeing a compensation fee with Chelsea.

Maresca will replace Pep Guardiola who left after 10 successful spell at the Etihad Stadium. The Italian tactician has now set his eyes on a player who played under him at Chelsea.

According to talkSPORT, Manchester City are interested in signing Chelsea defender Malo Gusto, with Maresca pushing for a reunion with his former player.

Chelsea are on the verge of signing a right-back this summer having beat off competition from Inter Milan for Marco Palestra.

He is set to play an important part in Xabi Alonso’s setup, leaving a question mark on the future of Gusto.

Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis are City’s existing options at right-back heading into the 2026/27 season. The club feel there’s a need to strengthen that position.

Gusto currently has four years remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge having joined the club from Lyon in January 2023.

The 23-year-old previously made 72 appearances for Chelsea under Maresca. He was also part of the side which won the Conference League and Club World Cup during his only full season as manager.

It’s now left to be seen if a deal will be agreed between both clubs or Chelsea will stick to the Frenchman.

Aside Gusto, Elliot Anderson is expected to complete a move to City from Nottingham Forest. City are willing to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Bernardo Silva.

Silva will leave City when his contract expire at the end of the month. Real Madrid have announced his signature as the Portuguese playmaker begins a new adventure in Spain.
