Ten Hag Replacement: Sporting confirm Man Utd interest in Amorim
Manchester United are currently seeking for a new manager after Erik ten Hag was shown the exit door on Monday.
Erik ten Hag’s sacking came just hours after Manchester United lost 2-1 to West Ham, a loss that left the club 14th in the Premier League with just three wins from their opening nine matches.
Despite being linked with various managers, United have identified Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as their preferred candidate and are willing to pay his 10m euros (£8.3m) release clause.
Sporting Lisbon have now confirmed the news via a statement.
“Manchester United have expressed their interest in recruiting coach Ruben Amorim and have said they are ready to pay the 10 million euro release clause,” Sporting said in a statement to the Lisbon stock exchange on Tuesday.
39-year-old Amorim is a highly regarded coach who has won two Portuguese league titles with Sporting – including their first in 19 years – since joining in 2020.
Though United have declined to comment on the reports, various reports have claimed the Red Devils are looking at securing the deal before weekend.
United’s bad form have also extended to the Europa League. The Red Devils are also 21st of 36 teams in the Europa League table, having drawn their three opening fixtures.
