Everton Fan Arrested for Alleged Racist Abuse of Antoine Semenyo
LIVERPOOL — Merseyside Police have confirmed the arrest of a 71-year-old man following reports of racist abuse directed at Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo during Monday night’s 3-3 draw at Everton.
The incident occurred during a high-stakes Premier League clash at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. According to official statements from Everton, the individual was identified and apprehended after both fellow supporters and stadium staff reported the abuse to the authorities.
The Arrest & Legal Action
The suspect, a 71-year-old male from Nottinghamshire, was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offense.
-
Police Statement: Merseyside Police confirmed that the man has since been released on conditional bail. These conditions include a ban on entering or going within one mile of any designated sports stadium in the UK for four hours before, during, and after a match.
-
Club Response: Everton reaffirmed their “zero-tolerance” policy, stating, “Racism and discrimination in all forms are completely unacceptable. They have no place in our stadia, our sport, or in society.”

A Recurring Theme for Semenyo
Tragically, this is the second time in the 2025–26 season that Semenyo has been the target of such abuse.
-
August 2025: While playing for AFC Bournemouth, the Ghana international was allegedly abused by a Liverpool fan at Anfield. That case is currently moving toward a trial scheduled for September 2026.
-
May 2026: Now at Manchester City, Semenyo was targeted again in the same city.
Manchester City also reported that England defender Marc Guéhi was subjected to “vile racist social media posts” following the same match. The club has pledged its full support to both players, working alongside the FA and police to pursue the strongest possible consequences.
