Bayern Munich set unwanted Champions League record in defeat to Real Madrid

Bayern Munich were knocked out of this season UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid in what was an entertaining semi final clash.

Having played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg, Bayern Munich looked like they will be strolling to the final when Alphonso Davies‘ strike gave them the lead.

However, Real Madrid’s substitute Joselu struck twice in another late show at the Santiago Bernabeu to send Los Blancos into the final.

Bayern were denied an all-German clash and repeat of the 2013 Wembley final with Dortmund and the loss also see them set a Champions League record they will not be proud of.

The defeat means Bayern have lost 11 times to Real Madrid in the Champions League. No side has lost more to the same opponent in the history of the competition.

Real’s most devastating win over Bayern came in the 2013/14 semi-finals when they pumped them 4-0 in the second leg at the Allianz Arena.

Thomas Tuchel had never lost a Champions League semi-final until Wednesday night.

While Real Madrid prepare for a Wembley showdown with Borussia Dortmund on 1 June, Bayern Munich will end the season trophyless.
