‘He’s been ‘disrespected’: United legend slams Mikel Arteta over treatment of top player
Manchester United legend Andy Cole, has called out Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, over the way he handled Aaron Ramsdale’s situation at the club.
It’s been a great season for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta, however, Aaron Ramsdale has failed to play an important part in the team, spending most time on the bench.
Ramsdale has been limited to just six league appearances after being demoted to second choice behind new signing David Raya.
The former Sheffield United goalkeeper has only started two games and this was against Brentford, a match Raya was not eligible to play.
With the trend set to continue, Cole in a conversation with Betfred slammed Arteta on how he decided to handle the situation.
Cole said: “Nine times out of ten, when a player moves to a different club, they’re meant to be their new club’s number one centre-forward, centre-half, goalkeeper or whatever it may be
“If Aaron makes the move, he will be Newcastle’s number one goalkeeper. I think he’s been hard done by, I really do. He was so good for Arsenal last season and then all of a sudden, Mikel Arteta has gone out and got a new goalkeeper and initially claimed that he had two number ones, which was complete nonsense from day one.
“The way he’s disregarded Ramsdale has been really disrespectful. He’s mugged him off basically.
“I like how he goes about his business and he deserves to be treated with a bit more respect, so if he does move on from Arsenal, then he certainly would do a good job at Newcastle.”
Ramsdale has been linked with a summer move away from Arsenal. He was tipped to join Chelsea but that rumors has cooled off.
