Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has accused Jamie Carragher of ‘disrespecting’ Arsene Wenger after he claimed Jurgen Klopp was a better manager than the Frenchman.

Jurgen Klopp called time on his nine-year spell at Liverpool during the Reds final game of 2023/24 season, an emotional day the club fans.

With fans and players still reacting to the latest development, Carragher on the latest edition of the Stick to Football podcast said that he “would put [Klopp] above Wenger” based on their careers.

However, Wilshere, who played under Wenger, instantly hit back and suggested that Carragher was being disrespectful. According to him, Klopp is unbelievable but Arsene Wenger’s legacy is second to none.

Responding on X, formerly known as Twitter, Wilshere wrote: “Klopp unbelievable how he transformed Liverpool but Arsene’s legacy in the Premier League is second to none. Sorry Jamie but you are miles off it, please don’t be so biased and respect Arsene and what he done over a longer period, including leading the only team in the Premier League to be invincible.

“Everyone appreciates what Pep has done and changed the way we see football in this country but don’t forget AW had a similar effect when he came in 96! You know that era better than me and witnessed it so let’s not forget that!”

Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups during his time at Arsenal, where he was at the helm for 22 years. He is widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever managers.
