Juventus eager to offload Douglas Luiz following public outbursts
Juventus are reportedly seeking buyers to get Douglas Luiz off their book following the midfielder comments on social media about his game time.
Luiz arrived at Juventus with high expectations after a stellar campaign in the Premier League, however, he’s yet to make a significant impact since his €50 million (£43m/$55m) transfer from Aston Villa.
Juventus fans are losing patience over his performance and it wasn’t surprising a fan called him out on social media. The fan accused Luiz of merely being present at the club to pose for photos.
Not pleased with this, the 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder replied with a passionate defence, insisting that his intentions upon joining Juventus were sincere and that he had hoped for a far more meaningful contribution on the pitch.
Latest report have now claimed Juventus were aware of the fact that Douglas Luiz was unhappy well before he said it publicly. The Bianconeri tried to work with him to find a destination in January, but nothing he liked materialized.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, it wouldn’t have been an easy sale as the Old Lady needs to pocket at least €45M to avoid a loss, considering how much he was valued at when he joined.
Despite failing to get him a new club during the January transfer window, Juventus will try again in the summer. Factoring in his €5M wages, there aren’t many viable destinations, Calciomercato informs.
The Old Lady will try to include him in a long-shot swap to lure Sandro Tonali. Newcastle United could be keen regardless, and Chelsea might be in the mix too.
