Kylian Mbappe set to become owner of famous France club
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe is reportedly set to become a football club owner as after taking a majority stake of Ligue 2 club Caen.
Undoubtedly one of the best players in history, Mbappe sealed a dream move to Real Madrid this summer. The France captain ended one of the longest transfer in modern memory when he finally sealed his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid earlier this summer.
However, Mbappe is about to become more richer as Le Parisien reveals that the 25-year-old has paid €20m to take a controlling portion of the club.
Mbappe is set to become Caen’s owner alongside Pierre-Antoine Capton, who is president of the club’s supervisory board, becoming one of the youngest club owners in European football in the process.
The report reveals Mbappe isn’t keen to the lead upon his arrival as part-owner and will instead look to maintain Caen’s current status quo. Given his new life as one of Madrid’s main poster boys, he is unlikely to be spotted too often at the Ligue 2 club in the coming years.
Ziad Hammoud, who is currently the CEO of Mbappe’s image company, is expected to become the French side’s new president.
Caen finished sixth in Ligue 2 last season and boast former players such as France internationals N’Golo Kante and William Gallas. Their best performance in league football came when they finished fifth in the top flight back in 1991/92
The club had spent five seasons in Ligue 1 before their relegation back to the second division in 2019, having finished 19th in the table. After nearly going down again in 2020/21, Caen have pushed for promotion during the last three campaigns with finishes of seventh, fifth and most recently sixth.
