Lionel Messi has been named Major League Soccer’s Most Valuable Player after leading Inter Miami to a record-breaking regular season campaign.

The Argentine superstar enjoyed a spectacular season with Inter Miami, helping them to secure a record regular season points tally and the club’s first ever Supporters Shield.

Messi finished the regular season with a league-leading 36 goal contributions after netting 20 goals and 16 assists. Messi’s MVP award comes despite an injury-hit campaign that saw him make only 19 appearances this year.

The former Barcelona and PSG playmaker is the 10th South American to win the MVP, and the fifth from Argentina after Luciano Acosta, Diego Valeri, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, and Christian Gomez.

Messi will be proud of what he has been able to achieve this season having been named among the nominees for the FIFA Men’s Best Player Award.

The eight time Balloon d-Or winner will be eager to end on the podium as he continues to prove himself on the biggest stage.
