Manchester City forgotten man set for Premier League exit in January

Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips is prepared to turn his back on English football in a bid to rescue his career.

Phillips joined Man City in 2022 in a whooping £50m deal from Leeds. However, things has failed to work out with the England midfielder starting just two league games after falling out of favour with Pep Guardiola.

The England international has since gone on to have two unsuccessful loans spells with West Ham and Ipswich Town. He returned to City in the summer and was included in Guardiola’s squad for the upcoming Premier League season.

But he suffered a serious Achilles injury in pre-season training, which required an operation. He battled back to full fitness, but has made just one appearance this season, in a League Cup win at Huddersfield.

Phillips who will turn 30 next week is now willing to get a fresh challenge in Europe.

Leeds have enquired about re-signing him on-loan, but the Yorkshire club want City to make a significant contribution to his £250,000-a-week wages.

It’s understood a deal is unlikely to happen, leaving Phillips little choice but to consider offers from numerous clubs in France, Spain and Germany.

Phillips was a key member of the England team which reached the 2022 Euro final. However, his last international appearance came more than two years ago.
