Marc-Andre ter Stegen facing possible surgery after suffering serious injury
Marc-Andre ter Stegen might have played his last game of the season as the Barcelona goalkeeper – currently on loan at Girona – set to undergo surgery after suffering a severe hamstring injury.
Ter Stegen moved to Girona on loan this January transfer window, having lost his place in Hansi Flicks’ team. However, just two matches into his loan spell, he might have to return to Barcelona.
The Germany international suffered an hamstring injury during the recent clash against Real Oviedo and while initial pitch-side assessments suggested a standard muscle strain, Cadena SER and Radio Girona report that subsequent examinations have revealed a much bleaker picture.
The injury to his hamstring is described as “more serious than initially feared,” casting a dark cloud over his immediate future.

Ter Stegen is likely to be out for at least two months, with fears growing that surgery may be required to repair the damage.
Barcelona and Girona are now in urgent talks regarding the termination of his loan agreement, leaving the Catalan club scrambling for a replacement before the window shuts.
Cadena SER reports that Barcelona are fully aware of the gravity of the situation and have not ruled out an immediate return for the goalkeeper. The Blaugrana medical staff prefer to oversee the rehabilitation of their own assets, particularly when surgery is a possibility.
Ter Stegen is reportedly undergoing further tests on Monday to establish a clear roadmap for recovery.
