‘No one listens to the players’: Barcelona star join calls for players strike
Professional football players over the past few weeks have been complaining over the amount of games they are forced to play every season.
The domestic leagues and cups retain their usual system while the UEFA Champions League has taken a new format that will see 36 teams participate for the grand prize
FIFA have also introduced a new format for the Club World Cup tournament and players are skeptical of how the busy schedule will affect their performance.
Manchester City’s midfielder Rodri has insisted that players might end up calling for a strike if things don’t change, a statement Barcelona defender Jules Kounde is in support of.
Speaking before Barcelona’s Champions League opener against Monaco, Kounde admitted that he would be open to the idea of a strike, as per MD.
“I agree with Rodri. Every year we have more games and less rest. We have been saying this for 3-4 years and no one listens to the players… The time will come when we will have to go on strike to make ourselves heard by those who decide.”
“We assume an increasing maximum risk and you can see that there are more injuries because there is less and less rest time. Those who play in the Club World Cup will reach about seventy games per season, which is crazy.”
Kounde has continued his impressive display at Barcelona under Hansi Flick and he’s likely to play more games this season depending on Barcelona’s success in all tournaments.
