Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rejects job offer three years on from Man United sacking
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly turned down the opportunity to landing a managerial job almost three years after being sacked by Manchester United.
Solskjaer was sacked by United in November 2021, just days after a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Watford around that very time. The former United striker has been out of job since then, though he’s been linked with various jobs.
Latest report have now indicated that the 51-year-old was approached for the Denmark national team job.
According to Danish outlet, Tipsbladet, Solskjaer has been in negotiations with a “major club” and could return to management soon after turning down the opportunity to succeed Kasper Hjulmand as Denmark manager – which was outlined by the same publication.
Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as United manager on an interim basis in December 2018 but was named permanent manager in March 2019 after his impressive results.
His first full season in charge saw United finish third in the Premier League, and qualified for the Champions League, however, they lost to Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
In his second season, United finished second – 12 points behind Manchester City – but also lost the Europa League final on penalties to Villarreal.
However, his third season as United boss was not impressive. United’s bad form saw Solskjaer sacked and he was replaced by Ralf Rangnick until the end of that season.
Two-and-a-half years after his dismissal from United, the former Cardiff City and Molde manager was appointed as a technical advisor at UEFA.
