Premier League confirms summer 2025 transfer window dates
The Premier League have confirmed the summer transfer window will open early ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, a move that will benefit clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City.
Summer transfer window usually opens in the middle of June but, with the Club World Cup due to kick off around the same time, FIFA proposed a temporary window earlier in the month to help clubs shape their squad ahead of the tournament.
In a statement, the Premier League confirmed the transfer window will open between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June. Crucially, all clubs will be able to begin their recruitment business, not just those involved in the Club World Cup.
“The window will open early, between Sunday 1 June and Tuesday 10 June, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup,” an official statement reads. “It will then reopen on Monday 16 June and close on Monday 1 September
FIFA rules dictate the transfer window cannot be open for longer than 12 weeks, however, and so there will be a temporary closure before the window reopens on Monday 16 June.
It will then run as normal before closing on Monday 1 September. This new development will give clubs the chance to get a head-start on their business, it also opens up the intriguing prospect of seeing clubs potentially pay to sign players who would typically join on a free transfer when their contract ends on 30 June.
For example, Real Madrid could pursue an agreement with Liverpool to sign right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and bring him to the Club World Cup, which begins just over two weeks before he would be free to join the Spanish giants on a free transfer at the end of his contract.
The new Premier League season will get underway on the weekend of August 16 and 17.
Liverpool are currently leading the Premier League table and might start the season as defending champion.
