Six Real Madrid players expected to miss Liverpool Champions League clash
Real Madrid are expected to be without six senior players for their Champions League clash against Liverpool on Wednesday.
The Spanish giant got back to winning ways on Sunday, defeating Leganes 3-0. Goals from Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Valverde ensured Real Madrid edge closer towards Barcelona on the table.
Despite their new found form, Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he is unsure whether his team will receive a double injury boost for their Champions League clash against Liverpool.
“Lucas and Tchouameni… we don’t know, but we’ll try to get them back. The truth is that Fede, at the back, did very well. As did Asencio, who played a very serious game, played with maturity,” said the manager
“After Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, he’s the best right-back in the world. His problem is that he can play at this level in many positions and the coach’s problem is choosing his best position for the team.
Real Madrid have been struggling by their own lofty standards in the Champions League. They have won a record 15 times, having picked up only six points to date.
The Spanish giants risk missing out on a top-eight finish and automatically qualifying for the last 16.
Victory against Liverpool is important, however, Real Madrid will be facing a strong team that has won all four games so far and topping the new league format.
The Reds are also eight points clear at the summit of the Premier League table and have not shown any signs of slowing down under their new manager Arne Slot.
