Former Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been ruled out of the vacant Republic of Ireland job.

A source close to the former Manchester United manager confirmed that he’s not interested in the job.

The Norwegian’s odds on being the permanent successor to Stephen Kenny dropped from 80/1 to 3/10 on Friday morning, leading to many thinking he could be the man expected to be unveiled by the FAI next week.

However, Andy Mitten – writer for the Athletic and editor of Manchester United fanzine ‘United We Stand’ – confirmed that Solskjaer had spoke to the FAI back in January but decided that the opportunity wasn’t right for him.

Andy Mitten took to Twitter on Friday evening to share details of the conversation.

Mitten posted: “Keep getting asked about the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for Republic of Ireland job story. Spoke to him. He has no idea where it came from.

“He has complete respect for the country and did speak briefly about the job in Jan, but decided it wouldn’t be right for him. Have a good weekend.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been out of job since he left Manchester United in 2021. The Norway has been linked with numerous job but has failed to return to management.
