‘We’ll do everything’: Bayern vows to keep Real Madrid target

Bayern Munich are prepared to keep Dayot Upamecano beyond the expiry of his current contract, which runs until 2026.

Real Madrid are actively looking for a top-level centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window and
Upamecano has been identified as a perfect fit.

Upamecano’s situation has become a talking point in both Germany and Spain, with Real Madrid keeping a close eye on developments.

However, according to reports from Germany, Bayern have already begun discussions to extend Upamecano’s stay.

In fact, sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that negotiations are ongoing and that the club fully intends to retain one of their most reliable defenders.

Speaking to Sky, Eberl said: “Upa has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the world.

“He went through a phase where he made a few mistakes. We’ll do everything we can to make sure he stays,” noted Eberl as quoted by Florian Plettenberg.

Upamecano joined Bayern in 2021 from RB Leipzig and has become a central figure in their backline. However, he could be tempted to leave in future if Real Madrid decide to make a formal move.

Madrid have also set their sight on other potential candidates. Alongside Upamecano, Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace, Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate have also been monitored closely.

Guehi’s contract is approaching its final option while Konate could arrive on a free transfer, as he has rejected several renewal offers from the current Premier League champions.
