Xabi Alonso Prepared To Replace Arne Slot As Liverpool Manager

Published on

Xabi Alonso is reportedly “ready” to replace Arne Slot as Liverpool manager if the Premier League giant decides to sack him this summer.

Slot has failed to convince Liverpool fans in his second season, despite the club making over €500 million investment last summer- which included the marquee signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds have been inconsistent all season and will have to win either the UEFA Champions League or the FA Cup, so as not to end the season trophy less.

Latest report from SPORT BILD have now claim the hierarchy at Anfield, led by Michael Edwards, has already identified former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso as the man to lead a summer overhaul.

This potential appointment would coincide with the departure of club icon Mohamed Salah, whose exit at the end of the season is expected to facilitate a genuine tactical reset under new leadership.

The reports suggest that while Alonso is “ready” to accept a concrete offer from Liverpool, he has set strict conditions regarding his influence over recruitment and squad planning.

Having failed to hit the mark at Madrid, Alonso wants an environment where he can explore and make bold decision.

Alonso’s agent, Inaki Ibanez, has confirmed that concrete offers are on the table for the Spaniard, who won 18 major trophies during his playing career. However, he does not want to make a costly mistake of taking over a team that does not align with his tactical convictions.

Liverpool attempted to bring Alonso back to Anfield in the spring of 2024 before Slot was appointed. The club hierarchy must now decide if he deserves a chance in the summer.

The Reds are currently five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with seven Premier League games remaining.
