Chelsea are on the verge of completing a deal to bring in Liam Delap from Ipswich as the young striker agrees personal terms with the newly crowned UEFA Conference League champion.

Following Ipswich’s relegation back to the Championship after just a season in the top-flight, Chelsea have agreed to pay the 22-year-old striker release clause of £30 million ($41m).

Though various clubs including Manchester United and Arsenal were looking at bringing in Delap, reports from The Athletic claim, Chelsea have won the race. They are poised to sign Delap on a six-year contract that will run until 2031.

Delap is due to undergo a medical in west London on Monday before putting pen to paper.

The son of former Stoke and Republic of Ireland midfielder Rory, Delap started out in Derby’s academy system before joining Manchester City in 2019. He took in six appearances for the Cityzens while spending time on loan at Stoke, Preston and Hull City.

Delap joined Ipswich on a permanent deal in July 2024 and a year later, he’s set to make the biggest move of his career.
