Chelsea eye 26-year-old La Liga star as Pochettino finds solution to leaky defense

Premier League side, Chelsea are reportedly interested in 26-year-old Athletic Club goalkeeper Unai Simon as they seek a lasting solution to their leaky defense.

Despite not playing European football this season, Chelsea has failed to keep up with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

The Blues are currently occupying 9th spot in the league and have conceded 52 goals in 30 Premier League matches.

According to a report from 90min, Unai Simon has now been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge next season.

Unai Simon’s current contract at Athletic Club is scheduled to expire in June 2025 and Chelsea believes they can strike a deal with the Spanish international.

Despite paying a combined amount of about £39 million to sign Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, Chelsea believes Unai Simon is a better choice.

Simon is currently having a great season with Athletic Club. In 29 La Liga games, the 26-year-old has recorded 15 clean sheets, which has helped his team to fifth in the standings.

The 39-cap Spain international has allowed 195 goals while maintaining 63 clean sheets in 188 games for Athletic thus far.
