Bruno Fernandes seeks assurances over Man Utd’s ambition for next season

Published on

Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes wants the club to clarify their ambition for next season before making a decision on his future.

Fernandes has been United’s best player this season and a frontrunner for the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards. However, his future at Old Trafford has been in the spotlight, with various clubs monitoring his situation.

The Portuguese playmaker has a €65m (£56.3m) release clause in his contract that is thought to be active until the first half of July.

While his deal runs until 2027, with an option for a further year, Fernandes will prioritize success at the highest level before committing to a new contract.

According to The Telegraph, Fernandes has made clear his desire to win the Premier League and Champions League, and sources close to the player believe he wants reassurances about United’s ambitions.

Having spent six years at the club without a serious title tilt, the midfielder is wary of spending his final peak years in a side that is merely battling for a top-four finish.

Fernandes has previously sought similar assurances before signing extensions in 2022 and 2024, only to be met with underwhelming recruitment drives.

Manchester United are taking enough steps to prove they want to win silverware next season. With Casemiro expected to leave at the end of this season, the club has set its sights on various top midfielders.

Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest and Aurélien Tchouaméni of Real Madrid are at the top of the shortlist for the No. 6 position, while Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion is also among a number of other midfielders of interest.
