Liam Delap makes decision on Chelsea future amid Everton link

Liam Delap has struggled in his first season at Chelsea and there are claims he’ll be allowed to leave in the summer.

Delap joined Chelsea last summer after the London club triggered the £30 million release clause in his Ipswich Town contract following the club’s Premier League relegation.

However, it’s been a torrid spell for Delap at Chelsea. The former England under-21 international has scored just two goals in 37 appearances and started only 11 Premier League matches.

Reports have now claim Everton are considering making a move for Delap as they seek for a new striker in the summer transfer window.

Everton currently rely on Beto who has scored five goals in the past six games. However, he will soon enter the final 12 months of his Toffees contract.

Meanwhile, Thierno Barry, signed from Villarreal for up to £27 million last summer, has his struggles and netted six times in 34 games.

Everton are reportedly monitoring Delap’s situation at Chelsea and would hope to sign him in the summer.

However, according to The Telegraph, Delap wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place.

The report claim that Delap, under contract until 2031, is ‘focused on trying to finish the season as positively as possible and returning to Chelsea in the summer to prepare for next season’.

If he eventually stay at Chelsea, Delap will face more competition next season.

Emmanuel Emegha will join Chelsea from sister club Strasbourg, while Nicolas Jackson will return from his loan spell at Bayern Munich.

Marc Guiu is also on the Stamford Bridge books and it’s left to be seen if Delap will get enough game time.
