Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has rejected an approach from the United States to take over as manager.

The Independent on Thursday reported that the United States Soccer Federation contacted Klopp about his availability, in what would be his first job since leaving Liverpool.

Klopp was the reported top target for USSF sporting director Matt Crocker after deciding to sack boss Gregg Berhalter on Wednesday after nearly six years at the helm.

However, latest report from The Athletic’ states that Klopp “politely declined” the approach and wants to stick to the vow he made to Liverpool supporters, that he will take at least a year away from football.

Klopp announced his exit back in January, admitting that he was ‘running out of energy’. He has since been linked with the Germany job, before the US speculation, but is set to continue his sabbatical.

“I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything,” Klopp said during his resignation in January. “But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take.”

“It is that I am running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.”

Undoubtedly one of the best managers in history, Kloop ended Liverpool’s title drought in 2020.
