Arsenal agree Neto loan move with medical set

Arsenal have agreed a loan deal with Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto with the Brazilian set to undergo a medical with the club in the next few hours.

The Gunners are currently in the transfer market for a new goalkeeper after Aaron Ramsdale agreed a permanent move to Southampton. The England international agreed an £18million plus £7million deal with Southampton which is also expected to be confirmed today.

Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia was the key player that was expected to replace the outgoing Aaron Ramsdale, however, Arsenal have decided to go for a keeper with Premier League experience.

Neto moved to the Premier League from Barcelona in 2022 and has gone on to make 61 league appearances under a number of Cherries managers. However, the loan arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea meant he is expected to be pushed into the number two role.

A move to Arsenal therefore offers potentially more minutes with cup games likely to be the avenue for Neto to gain time on the field and the Gunners will be expected to progress further in both the League Cup and FA Cup than Bournemouth.

Neto has been a player linked with a move to Arsenal for many years and Edu has in particular has been a big fan of the Brazilian throughout his career.

The 35-year-old’s loan has no option nor obligatory purchase clause meaning Arsenal could return for Garcia next summer – the Brazilian’s wages will be covered by the North London side.
