Florentino Perez re-elected unopposed as Real Madrid president

Florentino Perez has been re-elected — unopposed — as Real Madrid president for the next four years, the club has confirmed.

Pérez called presidential elections earlier this month, and potential candidates had 10 days to submit their candidacies to the club’s board, according to ESPN. However, he was unopposed and so will continue his role as the president.

Real Madrid has strict eligibility requirements: A candidate must have been a Real Madrid member for at least 20 years, and be able to provide a bank guarantee — backed by their own personal wealth — worth at least 15% of the club’s budget.

Perez has not faced an opposition candidate since returning as president in 2009, with no challengers in 2013, 2017, 2021 and now in 2025.

The 77-year-old construction magnate and former politician has been Madrid president in two spells, between 2000 and 2006, and since 2009.

He will now be eager to continue Madrid’s dominance in the world of football. The Los Blancos are currently top of the La Liga and are favourite to win the league.

On the day Perez was reelected as the club’s president, Real Madrid defeated Las Palmas 4-1 to secure the top spot in La Liga. Having conceded very early in the game, Los Blancos rode on the brilliance of Kylian Mbappe to secure a resounding victory as the Frenchman scored a double.
