Arsenal potential transfer likely to be blocked by Premier League rule

Arsenal are currently in need of a recognized goalscorer as Mikel Arteta seeks to compete with Liverpool for the Premier League title.

Having finished second in the last two season, Arsenal are currently placed second on the Premier League table with Liverpool looking like the team to beat. Mikel Arteta’s team have failed to keep their consistency with goals now drying up for the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta have also been forced to deal with various injury problems. With Bukayo Saka currently out, Gabriel Jesus will also have an operation on his left knee after sustaining an ACL injury during the Gunners’ FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, leaving Arsenal with no other strikers available.

Arsenal have since been linked with a January loan move for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

However, that deal might be blocked a Premier League rule. English top-flight clubs can only make two loan signings from Premier League clubs, a limit the Gunners have already reached with Raheem Sterling and Neto.

It means Arsenal’s hopes of signing Ferguson would have to be through a permanent deal, unless Sterling or Neto were recalled by their parent clubs or signed permanently themselves, thus freeing up a spot for Ferguson.

Arsenal might be forced to look abroad for a striker with the likes of Juventus Dusan Vlahovic linked with the London club.
