‘Dark arts’: Arsenal end Paris Saint-Germain’s nine-year Champions League run

Arsenal on Tuesday night eased to a 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates Stadium in their second match of new UEFA Champions League format.
First half goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka was enough for Mikel Arteta’s side to continue their impressive form and put more doubt on PSG’s credentials in European football.
The victory over PSG have now seen Arsenal achieve a huge feat that other clubs would have hoped for. Arsenal on Tuesday night ended PSG’s run of scoring in 51 consecutive Champions League group stage matches.
Their incredible run started in November 2015 with a 5-0 win over Malmo, with Luis Enrique’s men playing against Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in that time.
After a dominant opening 45 minutes, Mikel Arteta’s men were happy for Les Parisiens to have more of the ball in the second period – knowing they could keep them out.
Arsenal have now kept 17 clean sheets in 32 games in all competitions in 2024. That’s the most of any English top-flight side, with only Real Madrid [18] boasting more across Europe’s top five leagues.
The London club have played nine matches in all competitions this season, they have kept five clean sheets – and are yet to concede from their opening two Champions League fixtures.
